SPEAK OUT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

Union Square Park
Help us build bridges between law enforcement and mental health consumers in crisis.
Be a part of the solution to health and wellness.
Let our community know that recovery is possible.
COMMUNITY OF CARE MATTERS MOST
Community Crisis Intervention Teams (CCITs) help individuals in crisis connect with community-based treatment and support services, including:
– Access to treatment
– Respite housing
– Counseling
– Health care
– Community support systems
Incarceration is Not the Answer
CCITS are vital to reversing the trend of criminalizing people with mental illness, and demonstrate that through care, compassion and strong ties between law enforcement agencies and the mental health community: recovery is possible.
We know from our own experiences, as well as stories ripped from the headlines, that the NYPD can benefit from additional support and training to properly respond to mental health 911 crisis calls.
We believe that CCITs are the most effective way to ensure that people with mental illness in our communities are treated with dignity and compassion. Through effective collaboration and a strong system of care, mental health consumers in crisis can avoid threats of arrests and criminalization, threats of arrests-and know that they have a voice and a respect for their human rights.
