CBHA: June 24 Session: All About Service Animals for People with Psych Symptoms

June 18, 2013 by Chris Liu-Beers

Have you ever wanted a dog? Think owning a dog could help you with your psychiatric symptoms?

Special Seminar: Dylan’s Law: All About Service Animals For People With Mental Illness

Date: Monday, June 24, 2013

Time: 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Location: The Coalition of Behavioral Health Agencies

90 Broad Street, 8th floor Conference Room

This workshop is for peers, family members, and professionals interested in the ways service animals can help people with mental illness. Research shows that dogs and other service animals can be trained to help people cope with psychiatric symptoms such as disorganization, memory loss, irritability, anxiety, fearfulness, and hyper-vigilance. This seminar focuses on how to make this research work for you and your loved ones.

  • How owning a service animal can help your mental and physical health
  • How animal behaviors reduce people’s psychiatric symptoms
  • How to find a good match between service animals and their owners
  • The costs, responsibilities, and legal issues of owning a service animal

Peers and family members are encouraged to attend. To register contact Deborah Short at dshort@coalitionny.org or call 212-742-1600 x 235
