NYAPRS Note: Next year, New York State is putting over a billion dollars’ worth of public mental health and addiction Medicaid fee for service programs and services under the coordination of up to 18 health plans that already oversee many of our community members’ medical and pharmacy needs.
Those plans don’t have a lot of experience in providing behavioral health services to people with more complex, ongoing needs….and they will be required by the state to authorize access to a range of services, from PROS to peer services for example. Further, they will be judged on how well they address beneficiaries’ housing, employment and social needs…things for which health plans have not been historically responsible.
How prepared are the plans to understand and successfully support the needs of our community members? What have they been doing to prepare….and with what partners?
The NYAPRS Conference will offer a number of opportunities to explore this, most notably a newly confirmed panel presentation that will feature behavioral health leaders from 3 prominent geographically diverse plans:
- Ian A. Shaffer MD, MMM, CPE Medical Director, Behavioral Health, Healthfirst, New York City, NY
- Ann Griepp, MD, Chief Medical Officer for Behavioral Health, Excellus, Rochester, NY
- Margaret (Peggy) Leonard, MS, RN-BC, FNP, Senior Vice President, Clinical Services, Hudson Health Plan, Tarrytown, NY
The panel presentation will be moderated by Harvey Rosenthal and allow for a lot of Q&A with our audience.
The NYAPRS conference is only ONE MONTH away so please register today at
