Alliance Alert: The 8th Annual Substance Use and Mental Health Peer Conference will be held on Friday December 6th at the Silberman School of Social Work. This year’s theme is “Upholding Rights, Integrity, and Solidarity in advocating for the Authenticity and Values of the Peer Support Role.” The one-day conference is a great opportunity to connect with other peers in the field, learn about new developments in peer support, and share your thoughts on challenges in the field. We encourage all New York peers to attend and submit a workshop proposal. Proposals are due by close of business today Friday, November 1st. “Lived experience matters, and those who have been closest to the problem are the best positioned to aid in the solution.”
– SUMH committee member, 2024
As the demand for Peer support services continues to grow, it is integral that we protect the fidelity and integrity of the work, highlighting and valuing our lived expertise. Staying true to the historical fundamental core values of the peer-to-peer support relationship is how we will successfully sustain our impact. In doing so, we ensure role clarity and identity, avoid peer drift, and work creep, and establish the voices of our individual and collective lived experience that define OUR work.
Voices of peer support matter now more than ever in collectively ensuring OUR work remains true to its origins, its roots!
This one-day conference will bring all these current developments to be discussed. Together participants, peer professional staff and other providers in the substance use disorder and mental health communities will address cutting edge advancements in the market of employment, professional development, and skill-building, as well as provide opportunities for career coaching and mentoring.
CE Credits for 2024 Workshops
This year, attendees of some workshops will be eligible for hours of Continuing Education Credits (CE) for renewal or upgrade requirements of the NY Peer Specialist Certification Board (NYPSCB). Also, the conference participants may be eligible for New York Certification Board (NYCB) continuing education hours for the Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA).
