Alliance Alert: Today, the New York State Assembly and Senate announced their leadership positions and committee chairs for the 2025 legislative session! The Alliance congratulates Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon on her appointment as the new Assembly Mental Health Chair! Assemblymember Simon is a nationally recognized expert in the disability rights law field and her work has been featured in the New York and National Law Journals.
We would also like to congratulate Senator Samra Brouk on her reappointment as the Mental Health Committee Chair in the Senate. Senator Brouk has fought for increased funding for services, pushed for the transformation of our state’s crisis response by introducing Daniel’s Law which would create teams of mental health first responders for crisis calls, and worked to expand effective community services.
The Alliance looks forward to working with both Assemblymember Simon and Senator Brouk, as well as other legislative champions, during the upcoming legislative session as we push our state to continue investing in community services to support people with mental health challenges.
