Marking the 60th anniversary of Medicaid and Medicare, caregivers, older adults, people with disabilities and advocates from across the country have massed on the National Mall to, as the organizers write: provide a direct response to the cruel budget bill that Congress passed, gutting Medicaid, SNAP, and other essential programs – all to fund tax breaks for billionaires and boost ICE and military spending.
Congressional leaders claim we’ll “get over” these disastrous cuts. We’re showing up because we won’t get over it. And we want you with us. and a broad array of Medicaid advocates are in the midst of a 60 hour vigil that began last night at 9pm and will end tomorrow.
Join us and watch live at https://protectmedicaidvigil.com/
Purpose of the Vigil: Congress has passed the largest cuts to care in history – gutting Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act by more than one trillion dollars, in favor for tax cuts for billionaires.
We will not simply “get over” losing our care. Instead, we’re getting organized and taking action.
Hold your Congress members accountable for this disastrous decision. Fill out the form to send a message to your legislator now.
The What:
We’re holding a 60-hour vigil on the National Mall in honor of the 60th anniversary of Medicaid and Medicare, as these very care programs are under attack.
July also marks Disability Pride Month, and the 35th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Families across the country – especially older adults and disabled people – will suffer the consequences of this disastrous decision from Congress. We’re bringing together a wide coalition of care advocates to fight for the care we all deserve.
The Why:
Congress has just cut nearly a trillion dollars from Medicaid to pay for tax giveaways for the wealthiest and big corporations. We know that Medicaid isn’t a line item in a budget, but a lifeline for millions of families across the U.S.
We’re holding our elected leaders accountable for this disastrous decision that will hurt all of our families and communities.
The Where:
The vigil will be held at the National Mall, directly across from the U.S. Capitol building.
For more information on the vigil, sign up below or email info@caringacross.org.
