Oversight In Action: A Discussion with CANY On New York State Prisons! Register for the Webinar Today!

March 10, 2026 by The Alliance for Rights and Recovery

Alliance Alert: Understanding conditions within New York’s prisons is critical to advancing policies that support recovery, safety, and human dignity. The Alliance for Rights and Recovery invites our community to join this important conversation with the Correctional Association of New York (CANY), an independent organization with legislative authority to monitor state prisons. Through their regular facility visits and direct communication with incarcerated individuals, CANY offers a unique and often unseen perspective on the realities inside New York’s correctional system. This webinar will provide valuable insights into current conditions, the challenges faced by both incarcerated people and staff, and the policy changes needed to improve outcomes and support successful reentry.

Oversight In Action: A Discussion With CANY On New York State Prisons

New York State prisons are, and have been, in turmoil. Recent media coverage provides only a narrow view of conditions behind the walls. The Alliance for Rights and Recovery invites you to engage CANY in a candid discussion about their monitoring activities—with a review of their observations, reports, and recommendations. This webinar will also provide insight into the lived conditions of people in prisons and the challenges faced by those working there. As an independent non-profit organization with legislative authority to monitor and provide oversight to New York State prisons, CANY communicates with the incarcerated population and regularly visits the various facilities.
