Midterm and State Election Results Are Rolling In: Our Civic Engagement Must Continue!

November 4, 2026 by The Alliance for Rights and Recovery

Alliance Alert: As election results continue to come in across New York and the nation, the Alliance for Rights and Recovery commends everyone who exercised their right to vote and participated in our democratic process, regardless of which candidates or parties they supported. Voting is a fundamental right and a critical part of civic engagement, but our responsibility to shape the future of our communities does not end at the ballot box.

We are sharing the article below as a quick way to review election results from key races across New York State. While many races have been called, some results remain unofficial and may not be finalized until later today or this week as additional ballots are counted, particularly in closely contested elections.

Whether or not we voted for the individuals who will represent us, we all have a role in holding our elected officials accountable and ensuring they listen to and address the needs of their constituents. Continued civic engagement, advocacy, and communication with policymakers are essential to advancing the services, supports, rights, and opportunities our communities need.

One important way to stay involved is by joining advocacy campaigns and events, including the Alliance’s Regional Forums and Annual Legislative Day on February 9, 2027! We are currently planning additional Regional Forums in New York City, Long Island, the North Country, and Rochester ahead of the upcoming legislative session. These gatherings will provide opportunities to share local priorities, discuss pressing policy issues, and help shape our collective advocacy agenda.

Stay tuned for more details on our upcoming forums, and join us as we continue working to ensure our voices are heard throughout the year!

Election 2026: Results from Key Races Across New York and The Capital Region
By Felix Day | CBS 6 News | November 4, 2026

New York (WRGB) — Voters across New York headed to the polls Tuesday for the 2026 midterm elections, deciding races for governor, attorney general, state comptroller, Congress and the state Legislature.

Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul won a second full term, while Democrats Letitia James and Thomas DiNapoli held substantial leads in their reelection bids for attorney general and comptroller.

In the Capital Region, Democrat Paul Tonko secured another term in Congress, while the closely watched race for New York’s 21st Congressional District remained a focus as votes continued to be counted.

New York Governor
Democrat Gov. Hochul defeated Republican Bruce Blakeman, the Nassau County executive, to win a second full term.
Blakeman conceded Tuesday night after calling Hochul to congratulate her on her victory.

New York Attorney General
Democrat Attorney General Letitia James declared victory Tuesday night in her bid for a third term against Republican Saritha Komatireddy.
The attorney general serves as New York’s chief legal officer, representing the state in legal matters and overseeing investigations involving consumer protection, fraud and other issues.

New York Comptroller
Democrat State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli also declared victory Tuesday night over Republican Joseph Hernandez.
The state comptroller oversees New York’s finances, conducts government audits and serves as trustee of the state’s pension fund.

20th Congressional District
Democratic Rep. Paul Tonko won reelection in New York’s 20th Congressional District, defeating Republican challenger Ralph Ambrosio.
Tonko will serve his 10th term in Congress.
The district includes Albany and Schenectady counties, along with portions of Rensselaer, Saratoga and Montgomery counties.

21st Congressional District
The race for New York’s 21st Congressional District drew attention Tuesday night as Republican Anthony Constantino and Democrat Blake Gendebien competed for the seat.
Constantino declared victory late Tuesday after taking the lead as additional election districts reported their results.
However, Gendebien had not conceded at the time, and additional votes remained to be counted.

19th Congressional District
Democratic Rep. Josh Riley holds a substantial lead over Republican state Sen. Peter Oberacker.
Unofficial results showed Riley receiving 158,597 votes, compared with Oberacker’s 113,714.

Capital Region State Senate races
Several state Senate races across the Capital Region saw competitive results Tuesday night.

43rd Senate District: Republican incumbent Jake Ashby holds a narrow lead over Democrat Devin Lander, with unofficial results showing a difference of just 352 votes. The close contest remained subject to additional ballot counting.

44th Senate District: Democrat Sarah Rogerson declared victory over Republican incumbent Jim Tedisco after taking the lead in unofficial election results. However, the race had not been called as of early Wednesday.

46th Senate District: Democratic incumbent Patricia Fahy declared victory over Republican Martha McHugh after holding a substantial lead in unofficial results.

Capital Region State Assembly races
Several Assembly contests also produced notable results across the region.

102nd Assembly District: Republican Marcus Molinaro leads Democrat Janet Tweed, according to unofficial election results.

107th Assembly District: Democrat Chloe Pierce holds a lead over Republican incumbent Scott Bendett. Unofficial results showed Pierce ahead by approximately 2,200 votes.

108th Assembly District: Democratic incumbent John McDonald holds a substantial lead over Republican Joseph Adamo III.

Election results remain unofficial
The New York State Board of Elections says election-night results remain unofficial until all eligible ballots are counted and results are certified.

Additional absentee, affidavit and other ballots could change vote totals, particularly in closely contested races.
