DRNY Seeks Applicants for Its
Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with
Mental Illness (PAIMI) Advisory Council
Disability Rights New York is soliciting applications for its Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness (PAIMI) Advisory Council.
PAIMI Advisory Council members will be appointed by the DRNY Board of Directors and consist of approximately 10-15 people representing all parts of New York State. As required by the federal statute authorizing DRNY’s PAIMI work, a majority of Advisory Council members will be individuals who have received or are receiving mental health services or who are family members of such individuals, and the Advisory Council chairperson must come from among this group. Other Advisory Council members will include attorneys, mental health professionals, providers of mental health services, and other individuals who are knowledgeable about mental illness and the advocacy needs of persons with mental illness.
The Advisory Council will provide DRNY’s Board of Directors and staff with advice and recommendations regarding the PAIMI program, including having a significant role in establishing DRNY’s priorities for its mental health advocacy work. Meetings will be held at least three times each year, and reimbursement of travel expenses is available consistent with DRNY policies.
If you are interested in being considered for PAIMI Advisory Council membership, please complete and submit the application available on the DRNY web site, www.disability-advocates.org .
