Over the past year, a national debate on the effectiveness and appropriate scope of state and national mental health service systems has intensified. A number of critically important questions have been raised including
- How can we greatly improve our response to the most distressed individuals and their families?
- What are we doing to bring to scale the broad array of evidence based or emerging best practice community recovery services that we have developed?
- What are we doing to expand and improve individualized and culturally competent outreach, engagement and supports to address high rates of homelessness, incarceration, suicide, unemployment and avoidable emergency room and inpatient admissions?
- What steps can state Medicaid and behavioral health systems taking to overhaul our systems of care to make services more responsive, accountable and better coordinated and effective?
- What are national and state advocates doing to help promote system reforms?
- Where are we with credentialing and deploying Medicaid funding innovative peer run services within integrated initiatives and settings?
The 2014 NYAPRS’ Annual Conference has been designed to help address the above questions…and many more. Entitled ‘Recovery Moves to the Mainstream,’ the conference’s 70+ presentations, dialogues and special forums will take an ‘on the ground’ look at how recovery has become the expectation and has become a front and center focus in our main funding stream, Medicaid. The Conference will be held between September 17-19 at the Hudson Valley resort in the heart of the Catskills in the town of Kerhonkson.
NYAPRS has just released a draft program schedule that includes full details about our program schedules. Please go to http://www.nyaprs.org/conferences/annual-conference/2014.cfm to download the schedule and to access our registration link.
Please note that we have kept many of our rates, which cover all expenses including registration, lodging and meals, at the same level that we offered in 2009. We have a limited number of scholarships and are making most of them available as an incentive to agencies who want to register a number of attendees.
Look for more alerts that highlight specially design program tracks, free access to shiatsu, massage, acupuncture, meditation, energy balancing and Qi-Gong and a range of informative or fun evening offerings in the coming day.
