NYAPRS Note: The meeting of the Most Integrated Setting Coordinating Council is a unique opportunity to hear the voices of policy leaders and disability advocates coalesce around the rights of individuals to live in integrated community settings. Fulfilling the NYS Olmstead Plan, finalized in 2013, is a top priority of the Cuomo administration and health agencies. The lives touched by the plan span each service setting and are most often overlapping, so the system transition plans for persons with psychiatric, developmental, and intellectual disabilities, organized through the MLTC, FIDA, BH/HARP, Adult Home and Nursing Home transitions must be coordinated.
Of particular interest at tomorrow’s meeting will be a discussion about the CMS rule on appropriate community settings, and how that rule impacts state policy. The presence of advocates at the meeting and attending by webcast is essential to helping educate community members and hold state leadership accountable for the Olmstead plan. Tomorrow, come to the meeting or listen to the webcast to learn about how the various system plans impact community members and how advocates and policy makers are progressing toward full implementation.
