Mental Health America Of Dutchess County Seeks Executive Officer
Mental Health America of Dutchess County is seeking an Executive Director who will promote mental health through the development and management of programs providing direct mental health services,
advocacy, education and prevention and to ensure that funding is available through sound fisc al management; and who also has knowledge of the trends, developments and research in the field to provide leadership to the organization and to the community. MHA of Dutchess is a 6.5 million dollar agency serving 3000 adults and children and their families with mental health needs as well as many more individuals in the community through training and education programs. The services include targeted case management, homeless services, rehabilitation services, programs for children and families and community education. MHA of Dutchess is an affiliate of national Mental Health America of Dutchess and Mental Health Association of New York State.
R eporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will:
- Assist and provide staff support to the Board of Directors and committees in understanding their mission, charges and responsibilities.
- Design and implement an organizational structure and governance to accomplish MHA’s goals.
- Provide leadership and fiscal oversight of all areas of the agency and be familiar with auditing and cash flow projections.
- Work with the Finance Committee to hire a competent Auditing firm which will meet all of the regulatory requirements for funders and the IRS.
- Select, supervise and evaluate the capability of senior staff.
- Represent MHA on governmental agencies and community coalitions, task forces, and work groups, and sub‐committees that pertain to mental health issues.
- Impact the administration of mental health policy and programs by monitoring and influencing administrative decisions and activities of public and private agencies at the State and local levels.
- Assure that the staff and board are well informed regarding the activities of the agency.
- Promote and collaborate with other community mental health agencies in the County and in NYS.
- Effectively communicate to constit uencies about relevant legislative activity regarding vital interests of the MHA.
- Take appropriate advocacy action representing the agency’s perspective through advocacy activities, attendance at hearings, letter campaigns, collaborative undertakings, etc.
The CEO should have the following experience and qualifications:
- At a minimum, the candidate should have a Master’s degree in social work or a related field, plus at least 10 years of experience in a not for profit or public sector human services agency, including at least 5 years at a senior managerial level.
- Experience in the mental health and recovery field is required, including familiarity with evidenced based practices and outcome measurements in service delivery.
- A strong personal commitment to serving consumer needs through the effective recruitment, retention, training, and supervision of staff.
- Experience as a collaborator and consensus builder to work effectively with cultura lly, socially and economically diverse groups, and collaboration with other organizations in the human services network, locally, regionally and nationally.
- A thorough understanding of the mental health and recovery community and funding sources and reporting requirement, including, for example, knowledge of health homes, etc.
- An understanding of legislative and governmental process and its impact on the agency.
- Extensive experience with an understanding of not for profit funding, grant and contract writing and submission, budget preparation, over all fisca l management and audit procedures and general administration.
- Knowledge of Total Quality Improvement Planning and Corporate Compliance.
- A keen understanding and appreciation for informational technology, social networking, and social entrepreneurship.
- Familiarity with the National and State MHA is desirable
