NEW DEADLINE: JULY 9th
The NYS Office of Mental Health is participating with NYS Medicaid to improve the new Medicaid Pharmacy Benefit program.
They need examples of specific problems that have been reported by stakeholders.
AND THEY EXTENDED THE TIME PERIOD FOR MEDICAID CONSUMERS TO REPORT THESE PROBLEMS!
The list of reported problems is below.
If you or someone you know has experienced any of these or other issues with the Medicaid Managed Care system, please send your stories to Dr. Molly Finnerty (Molly.Finnerty@omh.ny.gov) and Catherine Benham (Catherine.Benham@omh.ny.us) by close of business, July 9.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your quick response.
Examples of problems reported to date have included:
- Many practitioners have decided to change their prescribing patterns to medications that do not require a Prior Authorization approval, even though it is not the best treatment for the person, like having to use an antipsychotic that increased one’s weight vs one that didn’t.
- The new policies limit access to desired medications because physicians have to spend so much time on the phone with insurance companies that they wind in prescribing something on the plan’s approved list (formulary) as opposed to what people want and have had a good experience with.
