NYAPRS Note: Our own Harvey Rosenthal and MHANYS’ Glenn Liebman joined Liz Benjamin on Capital Tonight yesterday to discuss the unfortunate lack of prominence that mental health plays in Governor Cuomo’s Executive budget proposal. This year’s proposal holds mental health services to existing flat levels of funding and sends entirely the wrong message by making savings rather than by investing in expansions in service capacity and capability. In response, NYAPRS and MHANYS are asking for a $90 million investment to better address staff and infrastructure needs, and to maintain and expand quality services that support recovery in the community and reduce avoidable hospitalizations, incarcerations and homelessness.
