NYAPRS Note: The Affordable Care Act creates a number of opportunities for states to improve theirefforts to serve individuals in the most integrated setting and to meet their obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (the ADA) and the Olmstead decision. Through the ACA, there are several changes toSection 1915(i) of the Social Security Act that allow for states to remove longstanding barriers to offering home and community based services through the Medicaid State Plan.
The NYAPRS Employment Advocacy Committee is hoping to promote the opportunity for Supported Employment services to be made available in New York State through these improvements under the ACA and Section 1915i. This employment committee teleconference is a unique opportunity to hear directly from the NYS Office of Mental Health about the implementation of HCBS and the opportunities it presents for improving employment outcomes for people with psychiatric disabilities in NYS.
