Shoulder to Shoulder will describe what Veteran’s Administration (VA) Peer Support is, how it works, and why it works. Participants will learn what Peer Support services are within the VA environment. You willlearn effective examples of what is happening at the Boise VA Medical Center and other VAs throughout the nation. The webinar will provide a glimpse of what is possible within the VA system and how that can be a model outside the VA system. Participants will appreciate the essential role that Peer Support has already assumed within the VA health care system
Larry Buttel is a Certified and active Peer Support Specialist at the Boise VA MedicalCenter where he facilitates groups including DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), Pain Management, Loss & Grief, Optimism, and Sharing YourRecovery Story.He is an advanced level WRAP Facilitatorand shares his love of performing music as an effective WRAP wellness tool. Larry is a Vietnam-era veteran.
Deanna Brent is a certified Peer Support Specialist and WRAP facilitator. She works at the VA Medical Center in Boise, Idaho where she is able to use her skills and recovery story. She works primarily in a residential setting, where veterans can recover from addiction and/or PTSD. She facilitates several groups in the residential programs and facilitates a women’s
peer support group on an outpatient basis. Deanna served in the US Army from 1994-2001 and is currently working on her Master’s Degree in Social Work. She is very excited to meet you and looks forward to being inspired by other attendees.
