Dear Friends:
The Legislature is still in session today negotiating last minute deals including the supportive & affordable housing MOU. We need your help in making sure the Governor knows how important this issue is to all of us. According to news outlets, there have been discussions to fund a very small amount of the $2B commitment to build 6,000 units of supportive housing. This is not reasonable and extremely disheartening.
The Governor needs to keep his word to fund the first 6,000 units of his 20,000 unit program he promised in January.
Call Governor Cuomo TODAY to URGE HIM TO SIGN THE MOU & FUND the FIRST 6,000 SUPPORTIVE HOUSING UNITS HE PROMISED IN JANUARY!
Governor Cuomo – 1-518-474-8390, Ext. 3
You can use the following script, or modify to make your own:
“Governor, keep the promise you made to the 80,000 homeless people and families in New York. Sign the MOU NOW to fund the 6,000 supportive housing units you promised in January. Do it now, before the Legislature leaves town.”
Right now, all that is preventing the development of the first 6,000 units of the state’s supportive housing program is a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Governor and the Legislative leadership. In April, the state budget included funding for these supportive housing units, but added this new requirement. Without this agreement, none of the 6,000 supportive housing units the Governor promised in January will be realized. URGE THE GOVERNOR AND THE LEGISLATURE TO KEEP THEIR PROMISE AND SIGN THE MOU TODAY!
