First Look at How the SAMHSA Budget Fared in Congressional Budget Proposal

December 16, 2015 by Chris Liu-Beers

Attached is a copy of how the SAMHSA budget has fared in the proposed Congressional budget deal.

The budget appears to fund the previously proposed AOT demos by $15 million, adds $50 million to increase set asides for First Episode initiatives from 5 to 10% and adds $10 million for Project AWARE to target communities impacted by civil unrest.  Despite previously proposed cuts, the Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH) program is fully funded.

The rest of the budget is apparently level funded.  Stay tuned for more details.

Several initiatives that were proposed by the President went unfunded, including increasing crisis response, peer provider training or trauma screening in primary care settings.

The budget proposal is not yet final until Congress approves it and the President signs it, actions that are likely to occur this weekend.
