NYAPRS Note: With only a few days left in this year’s NYS legislative session, we are urging all e news subscribers to join the push to get the NYS Assembly to move the HALT bill out of the Corrections Committee to the floor and for the Senate to do the same. The HALT bill will, among several provisions, ban solitary confinement for youth, LGBT individuals, pregnant women and people with mental health conditions. Call Assemblymember Weprin (Correction Committee Chair) at 518-455-5806 & tell him:

“I am a New Yorker and I oppose solitary confinement. We need to end its use in NYS prisons and jails. The Humane Alternatives to Long-Term (HALT) Solitary Confinement Act　(A. 3080 / S. 4784) would end the torture of solitary and create more humane and effective alternatives. A majority of Assembly Members, including 9 of the 13 Correction Committee members, support the HALT Act. Please hold a Correction Committee meeting for the purpose of voting on HALT.”

Call Speaker Heastie at 518-455-3791 & tell him:
