The New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services (NYAPRS), a nationally acclaimed state and national mental health system change agent dedicated to advancing the recovery, rehabilitation, rights and full community inclusion of people with psychiatric disabilities or diagnoses, seeks to fill the following posts:
The Director for Peer Services oversees and supports the development and implementation of nationally replicated peer service innovations and corresponding training and technical assistance. This position may be located in the Albany or New York City areas. This position will ensure the successful delivery and continued refinement of NYAPRS peer service demonstrations and pilots using multiple forms of reimbursement; they will monitor Division budgets and evaluate data around referrals, responses and reports to achieve expected program outcomes; they will also deliver state and national presentations and certificate level training and technical assistance on the NYAPRS Peer Bridger model.
Requirements: The successful incumbent must have lived experience with the recovery process and behavioral health service systems as well as significant experience as a supervisor/manager of skilled peer personnel in a variety of direct service settings; Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in human services preferred; they will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, experience in leading support groups and providing formal training and/or leading groups, facility with computers and other technical equipment, proven organizational and time management skills and a valid driver’s license and ability to travel.

The Director for Policy and Public Engagement provides state and national leadership in the development and implementation of public policy advocacy, engagement and education strategies that advance the recovery, rehabilitation, rights and community inclusion of people with psychiatric disabilities and/or diagnoses. This position also provides support to NYAPRS Board, agency and individual members, will directly lobby federal, state and local officials and staff, testify at public hearings, provide representation at state and national work groups and meetings, manage public and media communications and support a variety of grassroots and anti-stigma campaigns.
Requirements: Significant experience and success working with policymakers in public affairs and/or government relations; a demonstrated understanding of state and federal policy issues and trends affecting behavioral health, health and human services; Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in public policy or related field preferred; strong multi-tasking, organizational, strategic thinking and relationship-building skills; demonstrated experience working with media and colleague groups; excellent written and verbal presentation, public speaking and facilitation skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office suite with ability to write and articulate public policy positions; and a valid driver’s license and ability to travel.
