SAMHSA is Accepting Applications for up to $39.8 Million for the Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment Program
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is accepting applications for the Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) program totaling up to $39.8 million over the next five years.
The purpose of this program is to implement screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment services for adolescents and adults in primary care and community health settings for substance misuse and substance use disorders. This program is designed to expand the identification of, and enhance the care for, individuals who have or are at risk for a substance use disorder. SAMHSA expects to fund as many as eight grantees with up to $995,000 per year for up to five years. The actual award amount may vary, depending on the availability of funds.
WHO CAN APPLY: Eligible applicants are domestic public and private nonprofit entities, such as
- State governments through the immediate office of the single state authority or director of the health department (or equivalent agency) in states, the District of Columbia and the following territories: Guam, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau are also eligible to apply.
- The highest-ranking official and or the duly authorized federally recognized American Indian/Alaska Native tribes, tribal organizations, Urban Indian Organizations and consortia of tribes or tribal organizations.
- Private non-profit health care or behavioral health care systems, such as health maintenance organizations, preferred-provider organizations, Federally Qualified Health Care systems, hospital systems, and community health or behavioral health centers.
Fiscal Year 2016 SBIRT grant program recipients funded under announcement TI-16-007 are not eligible to apply for this program. Complete eligibility information is available in Section III-1 of the funding opportunity announcement.
HOW TO APPLY: All applicants must register with the National Institutes of Health’s electronic Research Administration (eRA) Commons in order to submit an application.
