NYAPRS News: On behalf of the Campaign for Alternatives to Isolated Confinement (CAIC), NYAPRS is supporting this fund raising effort. The stakes here are so high and we are so close to ending the torture. NYAPRS has worked side by side with CAIC members and many more organizations, in pursuit of the passage of the Humane Alternatives To Long-Term (Halt) Solitary Confinement Act (A.3080-B / S.4784-A). While the NY Assembly has passed this legislation, we are not finished. As you read this, New York’s prisons and jails hold more than 4,000 people in isolation right now and they will be in there for months, years, and even decades. Without your help, CAIC will not be able to keep their current staffing levels–or carry out the work so urgently still needed. Right at this crucial moment, CAIC could lose some of the most dedicated organizers working around the state, without whom this effort could never have come this far.
