Greetings from the Nathan Kline Institute Center of Excellence in Culturally Competent Mental Health!
We are pleased to announce the release of the NKI Program Level Cultural Competency Assessment Scale, applicable to behavioral health care programs serving multicultural populations. It is the first of its kind!
It assesses the extent to which programs conduct activities that promote receptivity to and acceptability of programs used by cultural groups who may require special accommodations and adaptations of services to be made. It provides ways to measure key ingredients to receptivity such as trust building, communication competencies, peer involvement and community outreach and queries whether services are culturally modified or new services offered.
It can be used by programs to monitor their level of cultural competency and subsequent changes over time. It can be used for program self improvement or in the context of quality assurance/quality improvement activities.
