Visiting Nurses Service
Parachute NYC is a new and innovative approach to providing community- based services to individuals 16-65, who are experiencing symptoms of psychosis. This project will support a coordinated continuum of services implemented by both professionals and peers, including home based treatment of up to 1 year, provided by specially trained mobile crisis teams, open door Crisis Respite Centers (CRCs), consumer peer led ‘warm line” as well as integration with medical services. Parachute NYC will provide care in the community to individual’s experiencing symptoms of psychosis and will include families and social supports in their care plan. Parachute NYC will provide a ‘soft landing” as an entry point to the mental health for individuals experiencing a psychosis related crisis and help the person to develop his/her full potential in the community.
Peer Specialist Parachute

Provides a broad array of counseling/support services to individuals living with serious mental illness (SMI) and who have been diagnosed with psychosis. Shares personal, practical experience, knowledge, and first hand insight to benefit program enrollees. Works under general supervision.
Education: High school diploma or the equivalent required. Graduate of core peer specialist training program preferred. Completes Intentional Peer Support and Need Adapted Treatment Model training within three months of employment as directed by DOHMH.
Experience: Minimum of one year experience in a mental health, health care or human services setting required. Experience working with persons diagnosed with psychosis preferred. . Experience with the mental health system and willingness to share personal and practical experience and knowledge appropriately and respectfully. Effective communication skills and ability to work independently required.
Intake Specialist Parachute

Assesses clinical appropriateness of referrals and conducts interviews to determine eligibility for people with psychiatric disabilities. Connects eligible consumers immediately with Need Adapted-Mobile Crisis Team (NA-MCT) services. Explains the NA-MCT services that are available to client and answers any questions the client or family may have. Works under general supervision.
Education: Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in a health or human services related field such as rehabilitation counseling, social work, psychology or counseling, mental health or equivalent work experience required. Masters degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of two years experience in a human/social services or mental health setting required. Proficiency with personal computers, including Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel required. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Bilingual skills may be required, as determined by operational needs.
Family Therapist
City: Manhattan
Provides therapeutic, family-oriented services to participants and their families of choice who are enrolled in the Need Adapted-Mobile Crisis Team (NA-MCT), utilizing the Parachute NYC model of care. Applies psychotherapeutic and family systems theories and techniques in the delivery of professional services to participants and their families of choice. Works under general direction.
Education: Master’s degree in social work, psychology, health and human services or a related field required. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and/or a certificate in Family Development Credential Intensive Training required.
Experience: Minimum of five years working with families in a mental health social services setting. Bilingual skills may be required as determined by operational needs required.
