NYAPRS Note: This past year, NYC and NYS government have moved to increase the use of involuntary inpatient and outpatient commitment (via an expansion of Kendra’s Law). Throughout the nation, policymakers and the media have embraced the false narrative connecting violence with mental illnesses and pressed for the increased use of involuntary treatment, most notably medications.
