NYAPRS Note: The following comes to us from NYAPRS NYC leader Carla Rabinowitz, who writes that “due to Hurricane Sandy, outreach for NYAPRS Legislative Day in NYC has been reduced. We need organizations to post the text below on their website or Facebook page.
Join with NYAPRS to educate and advocate with our elected officials in the state capital, Albany.
This year legislative day is Tuesday January 29, 2013, a week after the release of the Governor’s budget proposal for the coming year.
Reservations for the buses are required; Buses fill up quickly so register early! Everyone is welcome.
Attend a training to bone up on this year’s issues:
- How can we preserve the community safety net on the eve of the transition to managed care and health homes?
- How can we reinvest savings from state and Medicaid hospitals into a more active, accountable and effective mental health system?
- What is the state Olmstead plan and why is it so important?

A personal story is the best way to educate officials about the benefits of community support.
This year, many are pushing for expansions of institutions and forced treatment.
We need officials to see us for who we are, good neighbors, productive citizens, and family oriented people.
Let’s all stand up for our community supports and each other’s rights.
