Parachute NYC is a new and innovative citywide approach to providing community-based services to individuals aged 16-65 who are experiencing psychiatric crisis Parachute NYC will provide a “soft landing” as an entry point to the mental health system with Mobile Teams that provide immediate and ongoing treatment at home, Respite Centers that provide a short-term alternative to hospitalization when someone needs more support than can be provided at home, and a Support Line that people can call in times of distress (646-741-4673).
VNSNY will operate the Bronx Mobile Treatment Team as part of Parachute NYC. The Mobile Team will respond as rapidly as possible (within 24 hours) to referrals in order to assist people experiencing psychosis related crisis to avoid potentially traumatizing and stigmatizing ED visits or hospitalizations. The Mobile Team will offer psychotherapy, peer support and family therapy for up to one year. Their primary models of care will be the Need Adapted Treatment Model/Open Dialogue and Intentional Peer Support. All staff will receive extensive training in these models.

Provides a broad array of support services to individuals living with serious mental illness (SMI) and who have been diagnosed with psychosis. Shares personal, practical experience, knowledge, and first hand insight to benefit program enrollees. Works under general supervision. Licensure: Valid driver’s license may be required, as determined by operational/regional needs required. Education: High school diploma or the equivalent required. Graduate of core peer specialist training program preferred. Completes Intentional Peer Support and Need Adapted Treatment Model training within three months of employment as directed by DOHMH. Experience: Minimum of one year experience in a mental health, health care or human services setting required. Experience working with persons diagnosed with psychosis preferred. Experience with the mental health system and willingness to share personal and practical experience and knowledge appropriately and respectfully. Effective communication skills and ability to work independently required.

Provides therapeutic, family-oriented services to participants and their families of choice who are enrolled in the Mobile Treatment Team, utilizing the Parachute NYC model of care. Applies psychotherapeutic and family systems theories and techniques in the delivery of professional services to participants and their families of choice. Works under general direction. Licensure: Valid driver’s license may be required, as determined by operational/regional needs. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and/or a certificate in Family Development Credential Intensive Training required. Education: Master’s degree in social work, psychology, health and human services or a related field required. Completes Intentional Peer Support and Need Adapted Treatment Model training within three months of employment as directed by DOHMH required. Experience: Minimum of five years working with families in a mental health social services. Bilingual skills may be required as determined by operational needs required.

The psychiatrist is responsible for providing psychiatric and medical assessments and treatment to individuals in the community who have a diagnosis of psychosis. The psychiatrist, in conjunction with the Program Director, has overall responsibility for monitoring participant treatment and staff delivery of clinical services, utilizing the Need-Adapted treatment model (NATM). The psychiatrist provides clinical supervision education and training of the Mobile Treatment Team. Works under general direction. Licensure: Board certification or eligibility required. New York State Education Department Physician’s License required. Certification or eligibility for certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology required. Education: Medical degree from an accredited college of medicine required. Completion of residency program in psychiatry required. Completion, upon hire, of the advanced NATM training provided as a part of the Parachute NYC grant. Experience: Two years of experience in working with individuals with psychosis in a mental health setting preferred.
