NYAPRS Seeks NYC-based: Forensic Peer Specialist Liaison

Forensic Peer Specialist Liaison, NYC

Position Summary:

NYAPRS has an immediate opening for a Forensic Peer Specialist Liaison in NYC.  This position assists in the design and implementation and training of OMH–funded Forensic Peer Specialist programs to help individuals in the transition from prison to the community while promoting recovery from psychiatric disability and substance abuse.  This is a full-time, exempt position under the direct supervision of the Director of Peer Services.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, coordinates and implements activities including, but not limited to trainings, workshops and other related programs that support the skills development of Forensic Peer Specialists
  • Liaisons with existing programs in NYC to discuss needs and recommend modifications to improve program effectiveness
  • Keeps abreast of current research trends and services available in the field of mental health and criminal justice
  • Educated parole, probation and court systems to foster strong understanding of the value of peer support
  • Works with OMH to inform policy
  • Represents NYAPRS on committees and attends professional meetings as appropriate
  • Contributes to the review and delivery of training and technical assistance activities

 

Requirements:

  • GED or high school diploma
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the NYS public mental health system and the NYS criminal justice system
  • Lived experience with the mental health and criminal justice systems preferred
