Thanks to funding from the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH), the Department of Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Counseling Professions of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in partnership with the New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services (NYAPRS), and multiple peer organizations, are launching unprecedented training and technical assistance opportunities for peer services in New York State through the newly established Academy of Peer Services (APS). The goal of APS is to improve services through the enhancement of skills, education and knowledge sharing.
During the next four years, the Academy of Peer Services will offer the following services:
- Online courses for direct service line staff and managers of peer-operated services;
- Sharing knowledge and information through Communities of Practice learning environments
- Technical assistance utilizing a pool of experts in the delivery and management of peer services.
This regional meeting will bring together direct service staff and managers to introduce the web-based training platform, Moodle, on which the online coursework is hosted. This introduction will illustrate how to enroll in the online coursework, navigate the website, and discuss the structure of the online courses. Next, we will discuss how APS activities will foster regional Communities of Practice. Finally, we will provide participants with information about the technical assistance program and the current and upcoming online coursework offerings.
