Join Our Bi-Monthly Health IT Stakeholder Calls
As the Behavioral Health Field strives for the advancement of Health Information Technology (HIT), the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) would like to ensure that all stakeholders have an opportunity to stay informed about the progress that is being made and to voice their ideas, needs and concerns related to HIT. Therefore SAMHSA is initiating a bi-monthly teleconference series to encourage communication between federal policy makers and the behavioral health community.
SAMHSA is the primary federal agency concerned with Behavioral Health in the civilian sector. We provide leadership and devote our resources toward helping the Nation act on the knowledge that Behavioral Health is essential for health; prevention works; treatment is effective; and people recover from mental and substance use disorders. Our Mission is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America’s communities. One of our Strategic Initiatives focuses on HIT with the goal of ensuring that the behavioral health system fully participates in the adoption of HIT and interoperable Electronic Health Records (EHR).
SAMHSA invites you to join the bi-monthly Health IT stakeholder calls. Discussions with stakeholders play a critical role in the development of SAMHSA’s strategies for the Strategic Initiatives. We would like to keep an open line of communication and continue the dialog between SAMHSA and all behavioral health stakeholders; including consumers, people in recovery, behavioral health providers, technology vendors, and state behavioral health agencies. It’s important for SAMHSA to hear the perspectives of many diverse HIT stakeholders as we formulate future plans. These teleconferences will provide a forum for you to help shape HIT policies and plans.
The bi-monthly calls will serve as a forum to discuss developments, concerns, and future goals pertaining to:
- Ongoing HIT Initiatives
- HIT and Privacy (42 CFR Part 2)
- Meaningful Use Requirements
- Needs and Concerns of the Behavioral Health Community
- New Federal Initiatives
- Advances in technology (mobile apps, clinical decision support, etc.)
Calls will be held on the second Tuesday, every other month, starting on August 14th. Please email SAMHSA.HIT@samhsa.hhs.gov to RSVP. Meeting logistics will be sent upon receipt of the RSVP.
We encourage you to forward this invitation to any constituent groups who may be interested.
