KFF: New State-Level Data on Medicaid, Minority Health and Health Reform

November 26, 2012 by Chris Liu-Beers

October 25, 2012

State Health Facts has posted new data. Highlights include:

  • Medicaid spending per capita on enrollees with HIV ranges from less than $15,000 in twelve states to more than $30,000 in seven states; the national average is $26,226.
  • Almost half of Hispanic men (49.1%) have no personal doctor or health care provider, compared to 22.6% of White men and 30.3% of Black men. Many more indicators on racial/ethnic disparities among men and women are available in Minority Health.
  • Adult Medicaid enrollment increased by 12.7% nationwide between June 2009 and June 2011; one state’s enrollment grew by 83.8% over the same period while two other states experienced a decline.
  • Non-profit groups in 22 states have been awarded loans through the Affordable Care Act to create a new type of non-profit health insurer called a Consumer Oriented and Operated Plan (CO-OP). Awards total almost $1.7 billion.

Many more updates have been added and include information on Health Reform, Demographics & the Economy, Health Status, Medicaid & CHIP, HIV/AIDS, and Minority Health. A full list of recent updates is also available.
