Target Audience: Primary and behavioral health stakeholders interested in electronic health records’ role in integrated healthcare, as well as CEOs, compliance officers, state leaders of health information exchanges (HIE), regional extension centers (RECs).
Objectives:
- Understand the importance of sharing health information related to behavioral health treatment to achieving optimum efficiency and effectiveness, while maintaining quality of care.
- Understand technical barriers to and effective strategies for including health information in state HIEs from the perspective of state HIEs and behavioral health providers that work with FQHCs.
- Understand the technical barriers to and strategies for including this information in point-to-point exchange of patient information from the perspective of state HIEs and behavioral health providers that work with primary care providers such as community health centers.
Federal protections related to the privacy of certain types of behavioral health treatment information extend beyond those afforded by HIPAA privacy and security. This poses a challenge to many primary care and behavioral health care providers and state health information exchanges (HIEs) seeking to achieve the effective and efficient exchange of information so critical to patient care, while continuing to adhere to established standards.
This webinar will explore the results of a pioneering national effort to develop strategies that incorporate behavioral health into state exchanges and examines the issues from the perspective of a State HIE and a behavioral health provider. This groundbreaking initiative developed and vetted strategies to addressed barriers, moving healthcare closer to the national goals of shared patient information for better coordination of care.
Join us for this timely webinar that will provide insights for providers working to meet the standards for meaningful use and participation in federal and state health care reforms.
