NYAPRS Note: Congratulations to our friends at the MHA of Westchester for their selection to implement a new innovative program for youth and young adults. Please note the open positions for this project.
The Mental Health Association of Westchester (MHA) is pleased to announce that it is one of four primary sites for OnTrackNY My Health, My Choices, My Future, an innovative treatment program for adolescents and young adults between the ages of 16-30 who, within the last twelve months, have had unusual thoughts and behaviors or who have started hearing or seeing things that others don’t.
The main principles of OnTrackNY include: 1) early detection and optimal treatment will reduce disability; 2) core values of a recovery orientation and a person-centered approach will optimize individualized paths to recovery; 3) shared decision-making integrates the individual’s choices and provider’s recommendations which promote empowerment & self-determination.
An important goal is to help individuals remain in their lives or quickly return to their lives (on track) and to achieve this end, there is a dedicated IPS staff member focused on helping support individuals attain education and/or employment goals. Other members of this multi-disciplinary team include two licensed clinicians who provide direct clinical and support services, social skills training, substance abuse treatment, suicide prevention, recovery coaching, community outreach and recruitment, and support and education to families. Additional staff includes a part-time psychiatrist and registered nurse who will collaborate with individuals regarding their pharmacologic choices.
MHA Westchester will spend the summer hiring staff, participating in rigorous training and providing community education and outreach. The service will launch shortly after Labor Day.
