Overview: Drs. Ron Manderscheid and Roger Kathol will be featured for a webinar on Fostering Sustainable Integrated Services Delivery in Medical and Behavioral Health Settings. The discussion content will relate to an article published in the Annals of Internal Medicine in January 2014. They will set the stage for their discussion by describing the push-pull by behavioral health, represented by Dr. Manderscheid, and medical practitioners, represented by Dr. Kathol, in coming to agreement about where we are today in the integration of care and where we need to be. Core to the discussion is the way that medical and behavioral health care is financed since payment for services drives the way that they are delivered. They will walk webinar participants from the historical “Cross Referral” to the currently attempted “Bidirectional” model but then quickly move to a proposed future “Integrated” model, which couples payment reform to the supports needed for value-added cross-disciplinary services in both the medical and behavioral health settings.
