Dear Friends,
I can’t tell you how many of our finest recovery representatives found their inspiration, their voice and their dreams at the 31 previous Annual Conferences NYAPRS has sponsored since 1982.
So many past attendees went on to help run or work at some of our state’s finest recovery service agencies. Ask some of your best employees if their recovery journey was sparked at a workshop, a keynote, a healing session or by the extraordinary energy and sense of community that has driven every one of our conferences.
So many have helped lead or support a large number of successful advocacy coalitions and campaigns that have helped promote the recovery, rights and full community integrations of hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers with psychiatric disabilities and/or diagnoses.
Ask around and find out who helped win passage of the 1994 Community Reinvestment Act, the 1999 MTA Half-Fare Fairness Act, the 2001 adoption of the Medicaid Buy-In, the 2006 passage of Timothy’s Law mental health parity legislation, the 2008 ‘Solitary Confinement’ Exclusion law that ‘banned the box’ for inmates with mental health conditions, the 2013 court settlement that will help thousands of adult home residents to move to their home communities, and countless campaigns that have protected entitlements and either increased funding or stopped funding cuts to community recovery agencies. Time and again, you’ll find that so many of our finest advocates found their power at the Conference.
That’s why we are asking organizations, statewide associations, health plans, BHOs, and friends of recovery to assist us in sending peers to our Annual Conference, September 17-19th, 2014 in Kerhonkson, NY, entitled ‘Recovery Moves to the Mainstream.’
The cost per scholarship has been kept the same for almost a decade at $399, a sum that covers all expenses including two nights lodging, all meals, workshops, program events and entertainment during the three day Conference. We’ll welcome all or any part of that cost…for one or several potential conference goers.
Your support will send an individual to attend and participate in a life-changing recovery experience!
Please complete the Peer Scholarship component of the NYAPRS Sponsor payment form at http://www.nyaprs.org/conferences/annual-conference/documents/SponsorPacketa.pdf
