Last week’s NYAPRS conference featured all of the best we seek to offer to the 650 attendees who were present….a spirited, caring, inspiring and joyous atmosphere; informative, inspiring, expert presentations and panels; terrific entertainment, music, comedy and dancing; very unique culturally competent exhibits, fashion show, presentations and reception, a broad array of free transformative healing opportunities and award recognitions of some of our field’s greatest leaders.
Among the highlights of our conference were the contributions of Can Truong, who seemed everywhere throughout the 3-day event, ranging from a terrific presentation as ‘Making a Difference Through Culture’ keynote panel, workshops on ‘Multiple Pathways to Employment’ and ‘Spiritual Energy Meditation’, energy work healing sessions and the presentation of the film ‘Can,’ which was produced and directed by Pearl J. Park.
According to some of the film’s promotional material, ‘Can’ “follows 37-year-old Vietnamese-American Can Truong’s journey of healing from depression and a bipolar condition over a three-and-half year period. One of the first documentaries that focuses on an Asian American family dealing with a mental illness, it offers an intimate glimpse into Can and his family.”
You can see a trailer from the film at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V720lROtoPE but we strongly suggest that you order the film in its entirety at http://www.amongourkin.org/ and have him on hand to show it at your events, for the very inspiring and provocative discussion that will follow.
