We invite everyone to consider becoming a presenter. First-time presenters are especially welcome. Learning from each other is a clear example of self-help, mutual support, and the principles of recovery in action!
Each Alternatives Conference offers in-depth technical assistance on consumer/survivor-delivered services and self-help/recovery methods. The Alternatives 2015 Conference Committee, which includes consumer/survivor leaders from across the nation, is seeking proposals for presentations in the following areas, although proposals need not be limited to the following subjects:
Rather than separating out the focus on Diversity and Inclusion as a category, we are hosting a conference in which diverse perspectives will lead the pack in every category. Workshops and Institutes will be selected from the following topical categories:
· Whole Health & Wellness
Examples: Culturally-responsive health & wellness strategies; Holistic nutrition; Integration of physical and behavioral healthcare; Trauma-informed care; Issues related to Veterans’ behavioral health; Prevention of suicide
· Technology
Examples: Use of technology to advance a cause; Social Media involvement and campaigns; Assistive technologies to promote inclusion; Utilizing technology in everyday recovery
· Promising Practices in Peer-Run Programs & Peer Delivered Services
Examples: Culturally-specific programming (i.e. veteran to veteran, youth to youth); Innovations within the field; Practices that promote peer services; Peer-run organizational development
· Alternative Paths to Recovery
Examples: Mindfulness; Meditation; Massage; Exercise; Artistic expression; Companion animals; Sensory integration
· Leadership Development
Examples: Non-profit Board of Directors development, Building and sustaining your 501c3; Promoting individual leadership; Organizational and leadership sustainability
· Economic Health
Examples: Employment; Financial Self-sufficiency; Overcoming poverty & income disparity
