NYAPRS Note: Although Governor Cuomo has introduced 14 signature initiatives in advance of today’s State of the State address and budget proposal release, he has kept relatively quiet on any plans to bolster permanent housing. NYAPRS is advocating for the creation of 20,000 new NY/NY4 supportive housing units. Stay tuned.
Advocates Push Cuomo to Add 15,000 Supportive Housing Units

If Gov. Cuomo is serious about solving homelessness, he will add 15,000 units of supportive housing in the city, increase state funding for homelessness prevention services and restore money previously cut from the shelter system, a new report claims.
The report by the advocacy group Coalition for the Homeless also faults the governor for making cuts over the past years to rental subsidy programs.
“The state must not continue to abdicate its responsibility for . . . (the) homeless,” the report reads.
A rep for the governor said he has budgeted $906 million in homelessness spending, including $185 million for rental subsidy programs.
Cuomo has said he will outline steps to combat the city’s homeless crisis in his State of the State speech Wednesday.
