NYAPRS Note: Two things to do today: help people with disabilities to register to vote on November 8th and join the RevUp Campaign.
There are at least 35 million voting-age people with disabilities in the United States, representing 1 out of 7 voting-age people. People with disabilities have lower voter turnout than people without disabilities, representing the largest demographic group of non-voters in the U.S.
One day, the disability community will be a powerful voting block…but, for today, let’s get everybody registered now!
Please find your state’s voter registration deadlines for the Federal General Election—to be held on November 8 this year at —https://www.usa.gov/voter-registration-deadlines.
RevUP: Onward to… November 8th!
What better way to celebrate the 26th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) today than to get registered to vote?
Earlier this month the REV UP Campaign coordinatedNational Disability Voter Registration Weekto increase the political power of people with disabilities while also engagingcandidatesand the mediato recognize the disability community.
While the week may be over, our work is not! We must continue to organize our community, register to vote, get educated about the issues (both locally and at the national level), and put pressure on the media and our elected officials to recognize the power of the DISABILITY VOTE!
Important Deadline:
New York – Completed voter registration forms must be postmarked 25 days before the election. Source:https://www.usa.gov/voter-registration-deadlines
