The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is seeking qualified candidates for full-time Regional Advocacy Specialist to work at the Office of Mental Health. Salary commensurate with experience
FUNCTION AND SCOPE
The Regional Advocacy Specialist for the Office of Mental Health is primarily responsible for promoting the inclusion of recipients and family members into all areas of the mental health system. The Regional Advocacy Specialist is also responsible for promoting awareness of OMH initiatives, recovery, self-help and empowerment to a wide range of stakeholders in both state and local programs. Travel is required to carry out job duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five years extraordinary documented accomplishments within the peer and/or family movement, self-help and/or advocacy is required.
All candidates must be current or former recipients of mental health services and/or a family member of someone who is a current or former recipient of mental health services; have been diagnosed or have a loved one who is diagnosed with a mental health diagnosis; and publicly self-identify/disclose their lived experience and recovery story. Regular travel will be required and candidates must also have a clean, valid NYS Driver’s License.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
o Promoting the inclusion of people who are current and former users of mental health services into all aspects of mental health services through focus groups, town meetings, work groups & dialogues (as the need arises).
o Working as part of a team to provide technical assistance to recipient and family-run groups and serving as a liaison between people who use mental health programs and state & local mental health agencies.
o Promoting awareness of recovery, self-help & empowerment by disseminating relevant information to recipients, providers, family members, county government and the general public.
o Promoting awareness of the Office of Mental Health and New York State initiatives through provider and consumer training and assistance.
o Participate in policy development activities and policy analysis.
Location: Western NY Field Office, Buffalo, NY. Travel will be required in all counties of the Western NY region as well as regular travel to other areas of New York State.
