NYAPRS News: On June 30, New Yorkers will join together with dozens of other cities in a National Day of Action to Fight for Families belong together. The traumatic effects of detachment of a child from a parent at a young age have been well documented. Elected officials cannot claim to be sympathetic to the mental health needs of any population if they neither take immediate action to correct this situation, nor acknowledge the harm being done to thousands of children. No matter which side of the aisle you sit in or where you stand on immigration, this act is devastating, not only to the families directly impacted but also to the fabric of our entire country.
UPDATE: June 20, 2018, 8:00 PM ET
The executive order that Donald Trump signed is not a solution to the crisis created by his administration; it keeps kids imprisoned indefinitely, and doesn’t reunite thousands of separated families. But it does show the administration is reacting to public pressure, so we will continue to increase our pressure for justice at hundreds of events on Saturday, June 30, to say that families belong together—and free.
On June 30, people are rallying in Washington, D.C., and around the country to tell Donald Trump and his administration to stop separating kids from their parents!
Join us on June 30 to send a clear message to Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress: Families Belong Together!
