Black Lives Matters’ Hawk Newsome, HRC’s Dolores Covrigaru Join Justice Keynote at NYAPRS Conference! Register Today!

August 24, 2018 by Chris Liu-Beers

NYAPRS News: We’re only 2 weeks away from this year’s NYAPRS Annual Conference, “Dignity, Recovery and Justice for All!”, to be held on September 12-14 at our new site at the Honor’s Haven Resort in Ellenville! Please see our attached draft full program.

We’re very pleased to add Black Lives Matters NY’s Hawk Newsome and Dolores Covrigaru from the Human Rights Campaign (America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality) will be joining the National Empowerment Center’s Oryx Cohen and me for our Friday keynote panel:

Beyond the Mental Health Bubble: How We Can Unite Social Justice Movements to Create Positive Change
In the political environment in which we live, advocates from across New York and the nation are seeing the essential value of reaching out to unite social justice movements across racial, religious, gender, and disability identifications. In New York City, NYAPRS has supported efforts to bring together representatives of these communities to address the increase in the numbers of reported hate crimes, homelessness, over-representation in the criminal justice system of people and a weakening of the rights of women and LGBTQI individuals. Our draft mission statement is “to build a coalition that fosters cohesion amongst progressive groups who seek to promote equality, justice, dignity, peace, love and safety through relationship building, community mobilization and civic engagement.”
Come learn about this and similar alliances that are forming across the country.
Hawk Newsome, Black Lives Matter NY, NYC, NY
Dolores Covrigaru, Human Rights Campaign, NYC, NY
Oryx Cohen, National Coalition for Mental Health Recovery
Harvey Rosenthal, NYAPRS, Albany, NY

New Site: Please note that we have moved the conference to the lovely Honors Haven Resort in Ellenville, which has previously served as the overflow site for the nearby Hudson Valley Resort. Folks can still choose to stay at the Hudson Valley Resort and take the shuttle to the Honors Haven or participate as a commuter if choosing to stay at another hotel.  See the registration form for more details.

First Come First Served!: Please Register Now! or at https://rms.nyaprs.org/event/?page=CiviCRM&q=civicrm/event/register&id=28&reset=1 if you prefer to stay at the Honors Haven as the room capacity is limited.

Please note that we are continuing to offer a register 5 get one free arrangement.

See you in September in the Catskills!
