January 24, 2019
The New York State Office of Mental Health’s Bureau of Cultural Competence (BCC) is pleased to announce that applications for membership to the Statewide Multicultural Advisory Committee (SMAC) are being accepted. We will be taking applications from January 24, 2019 to February 22, 2019.
The Statewide Multicultural Advisory Committee was created by the Commissioner of Mental Health in the late 1980s and advises the Commissioner of Mental Health on policy, programs and activities related to fostering recovery and resiliency among individuals from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The Committee makes recommendations to improve understanding of the clinical needs of this population and the design, development, and evaluation of culturally and linguistically appropriate client and family-centered treatment and support services that promote health while eliminating disparities. The Committee meets quarterly here at 44 Holland Avenue, Albany, New York. Newly appointed SMAC Members are provided with round trip Amtrak Tickets, hotel accommodations and as needed, reimbursement for incidental travel expenses.
If you have any questions about the application process, please feel free to contact me at 518-473-6312 or send me an e-mail at matthew.canuteson@omh.ny.gov.
Thank you,
