Sorry to impinge on your Juneteenth holiday, but we hope you will take an action in support of defeating racism, limiting the role of the police, and supporting the rights of persons with disabilities.
200,000 times each year a family member, neighbor, provider or a person experiencing a mental health crisis calls 911 for help. But, there is no alternative to the police in New York City that can arrive in anything close to a timely manner, and in the last four years alone, fifteen Black and Brown individuals were killed by the police responding to a mental health crisis.
Correct Crisis Intervention Today – NYC (CCIT-NYC) is putting forward a detailed plan to eliminate the police as responders to mental health crises and to substitute a health care response. The Mayor and the City Council must shift funds away from law enforcement and contract with health care workers now!
Please click this link (and scroll to bottom of page and hit SEND) to automatically send emails to various city officials to support CCIT-NYC’s peer-driven proposal for mental health professionals to respond to mental health crisis calls.
