Alliance Note: The NYS Legislature and Governor are beginning to negotiate the final budget. Now is the time to push our leaders to take the first step in establishing the appropriate public health response to crisis calls for the state of New York. We must continue to call on our lawmakers to include critical funding for Daniel’s Law Pilot programs in the final budget. We need everyone to send our leaders a message urging them to support the proposed $2 million for pilots. Use the link below to send letters, call, or post on social media.

PILOT FUNDING
Crain’s Health Pulse | March 14, 2024
The state Senate and Assembly have included $2 million in their one-house budgets to implement the Daniel’s Law pilot program, which aims to establish statewide best practices for responding to New Yorkers experiencing mental health crises. The law was drafted after the death of Daniel Prude, a Black man who died of asphyxiation after being restrained by police during a mental health emergency in 2020. Beyond using peers to respond to crisis calls, Daniel’s Law would create a statewide council of mental health experts to provide resources for emergencies and integrate training into 988 dispatch services.
