The People’s Campaign for Parole Justice is conducting a weeklong call-in campaign to push for the passage of two critical parole reform bills, Elder Parole (S2423/A2035) and Fair & Timely Parole (S307/A162). The Elder Parole bill will allow people aged 55 and over who have served at least 15 years to be considered for parole release on a case-by-case basis. While the bill does not guarantee people will receive parole, it does offer people an opportunity which many will not have without this law. The Fair and Timely Parole bill restores the Parole Board to its original purpose of evaluating people’s readiness for release, rather than denying people based solely or primarily on their conviction.
Together, these bills will improve safety and fairness for all, allowing so many currently incarcerated people to be part of the solution to harm and violence in their communities. Each day we will be calling a member of the legislature to ensure these two deeply needed bills pass this session. Today we ask you to call Assembly Member Weinstein at 518-455-5462 or 718-648-4700. See below for more information, including a phone script.
