ALLIANCE ALERT: The HALTSolitary Coalition is conducting an emergency call in campaign in the wake of possible changes to the HALT Solitary Law as part of negotiations between striking correctional officers and the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS). Use the following information to amplify the group’s statement and call the Governor’s office to demand that the state reverse the suspension of HALT.
EMERGENCY CALL-IN: Make Calls to Gov Hochul Today
It was reported in the Times Union today that there is yet another attempted agreement between DOCCS and the illegally striking officers, this time with the creation of a committee to consider potential changes to HALT. This is wholly unacceptable. Please see and amplify Anisah’s statement here. Please use the below script to call Governor Hochul to demand that as people continue to die because of officer’s abdication of their basic duties, she needs to be releasing people, not providing pay raises, amnesty, and greater power to torture people.
CALL: 518-474-8390
Hello, I’m calling to urge Governor Hochul to reject any deal that even contemplates weakening the HALT Solitary Law or grants amnesty to the prison officers who abandoned their posts in the wake of the lynching of Robert Brooks and Messiah Nantwi, leaving many people to die and thousands of others to suffer. Instead, as people continue to die, I urge you to use your clemency powers to urgently release people, especially elderly people and medically vulnerable people.
