Alliance Alert: The Alliance for Rights and Recovery is proud to be a member of the Mental Health Liaison Group (MHLG) and to have signed on to their recent letter of support for the Senate Appropriations Committee’s passage of the FY 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies bill.
This important vote demonstrates that members of Congress are committed to sustaining and strengthening funding for mental health, substance use, and other vital health services—even as some call for deeper cuts. The Committee’s bipartisan action also shows that leaders in Congress are willing to stand up to the current administration’s attempts to greatly diminish SAMHSA and other critical agencies that form the backbone of our nation’s behavioral health system.
At a time when suicide and overdose rates remain high and millions of Americans live in mental health provider shortage areas, this bill represents a meaningful step toward protecting programs and services that communities depend on.
The Alliance will continue to push for policies that prioritize voluntary, person-centered, and compassionate services. As part of this commitment, our Annual Conference will feature several sessions focused on federal policy changes and strategies to fight harmful funding cuts. Highlights include a panel with Congressman Paul Tonko, as well as discussions with several former federal officials on how advocates can organize to defend and expand mental health and substance use services.
