The Alliance for Rights and Recovery is thrilled to celebrate Kristin Copeland, who has been selected by the New York State Justice Center’s Advisory Council as a 2025 Code of Conduct Award recipient!
The Justice Center stated Kristin was chosen because she has demonstrated “an unwavering commitment to the ethical standards outlined in the Code of Conduct for Custodians of People with Special Needs.”
This annual award honors staff across New York who exemplify the principles of dignity, respect, and protection from harm, ensuring that people with special needs can live meaningful, self-directed lives in their communities.
About Kristin’s Impact
For more than three years, Kristin has served as a compassionate and skilled Peer Bridger, supporting individuals transitioning from Rockland Psychiatric Center back into the community. She meets each person with respect, patience, and authenticity, walking with them rather than leading from ahead.
Kristin’s work reflects the core values of recovery: autonomy, whole-person support, and the belief in every person’s ability to heal and thrive. Whether supporting someone returning to the community after decades in the hospital or encouraging individuals navigating complex challenges, she brings unwavering hope and grounded support.
Her efforts also challenge systemic barriers, urging professionals and systems to center dignity and individual choice. Kristin helps people move beyond the label of “patient” and reclaim their identities, reconnect with their communities, and rebuild their lives with purpose and agency.
A Well-Deserved Honor
The Justice Center’s Advisory Council selected Kristin from nominations statewide. This recognition reflects not only her exceptional service but also the gratitude of the people she supports and her colleagues who see the profound difference she makes every day.
