We are one week away from our 2026 Daniel’s Law Advocacy Day!
In Daniel Prude’s memory, we continue to fight for the passage of Daniel’s Law, a bill that would remove police as the default response to mental health crises and empower Peers, EMT’s and mental health workers to be first responders to our neighbors when they experience mental health crises.
Since Daniel Prude was killed by RPD in 2020, we’ve made great strides in transforming how New York State views, and responds to people in crisis. Just last year, we won 8 million dollars to fund Daniel’s Law pilot programs across New York State, and develop the infrastructure for a centralized Behavioral Health Technical Assistance Center. This funding lays the foundation to create non-police, health-based response programs that honor the dignity and autonomy of individuals. These wins have happened because we came together, turned our pain into power, and fought relentlessly in the names of those we’ve lost.
Our work is not done. Our goal this year is to finally pass the full Daniel’s Law bill to ensure that non-police crisis response programs that include responders with lived experience are mandated across New York State.
On Tuesday January 27th, join us in Albany for a legislative advocacy day, calling for the passage of Daniel’s Law in 2025! You’ll hear from State legislators fighting to transform how we respond to mental health crises in NY, alongside families of those impacted by NY’s currently inadequate mental health crisis response system.
There’ll be transportation available from NYC and WNY and food will be provided. Once you RSVP, you’ll receive more details about pick up location and times.
